MASSENA -- The Village Board of Trustees unanimously voted to raise fire inspection fees relative to the size of the building inspected.
Massena Fire Department Foreman Ken McGowan said he made the table based on figures statewide.
“Most of the people, the smaller businesses, aren’t going to see a difference,” McGowan told the board.
The new fees are:
• Up to 1,000 square-feet: $25 base fee, $25 per visit over the base fee
• 1,001 – 3,000 square-feet: $50 base fee, $25 per visit over the base fee
• 3,001 – 10,000 square-feet: $100 base fee, $30 per visit over the base fee
• 10,001 – 50,000 square-feet: $150 base fee, $40 per visit over the base fee
• 50,001 – 100,000 square-feet: $200 base fee, $50 per visit over the base fee
• 100,001+ square-feet: $500 base visit (add $50 for every 10,000 square-feet), $100 per visit over the base fee
The first follow-up inspection for all buildings is free
Each tenant in a multi-occupancy dwelling will be charged separately
Home-based businesses under 500 square-feet will have a $0 base fee
