CANTON – Quick action by Pierrepont firefighters is credited with saving a garage and house in a vehicle fire early today.
Colton and Pierrepont firefighters responded to the fire at 62 Post Road in Canton early today.
The volunteers extinguished the fire but the 1994 Chevrolet Suburban owned by Molly Johnson was a total loss. Investigators said there was slight damage to the garage, but that the quick response of Pierrepont volunteers saved the garage and the nearby house from being caught up in the fire.
The alarm was sounded at 12:28 a.m. today. Canton Rescue also responded to the scene.
Two people were reported at home at the time.
How the fire started is still being investigated.
