ST. REGIS FALLS -- The man charged with child endangerment in connection with a domestic violence investigation is a U.S. Border Patrol agent stationed in Burke, according to state police.

A state police spokesperson said Bolster caused bruising to the neck of a victim less than 17 years old, but declined to specify the person’s relationship to Bolster, citing a policy to not reveal identities or relationships to the alleged attacker in domestic violence cases.

The alleged victim was treated at Five Star Urgent Care in Plattsburgh, troopers said.

Bolster was charged with the misdemeanor offense, arraigned in Waverly Town Court and released on his own recognizance, troopers said.

He was ordered to reappear in the Town of Waverly Court on Aug. 7 at 7 p.m.

Bolster is the second agent stationed in Burke to be charged with off-duty violent behavior in recent years.

Bryan McDonald, a former supervisory agent at the station, admitted in court in October 2016 to severely beating a senior citizen couple who stopped to offer aid at the scene of his wife’s death in December 2015.

He pleaded guilty to reduced counts of attempted second-degree assault and was placed on five years probation.

He resigned around the time of the plea after about a dozen years on the job, but had been on paid leave since he was charged with second-degree assault in December 2015.

McDonald’s wife, Ashley McDonald, died Dec. 4, 2015 after being struck by a car while lying in the roadway on county Route 37 near Taylor Road in Massena. Autopsy results released soon after her death indicted she was killed by "multiple severe traumatic and compressive injuries.” Nearly three years later, police and prosecutors have not released the manner of her death.
