CANTON -- St. Lawrence University’s University Chorus is accepting new members for the spring 2016 semester.
The theme this semester will be songs of the 1960s folk revival, including music of protest, peace and love. Artists such as Peter, Paul and Mary; Pete Seeger; Bob Dylan; the 3 J’s—Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins—Simon and Garfunkel; The Byrds and others will be featured.
Songs will include “Blowin’ in the Wind;” “Turn, Turn, Turn;” “If I Had a Hammer;” “Sounds of Silence;” “Woodstock;” “The Times They Are a-Changin’;” “Where Have All the Flowers Gone;” among others. Barb Heller, host of North Country Public Radio’s “String Fever,” will be the special guest artist.
All voice parts are welcome. Rehearsals will take place Tuesday evenings from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. beginning Jan. 26. New members will be accepted until Tuesday, Feb. 2.
The concert will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, in Gunnison Memorial Chapel.
As Canton's community chorus, University Chorus brings together the vocal talents of students, faculty and staff, and community members. They perform a varied repertoire in theme-oriented concerts, often with instrumental accompaniment, in the best tradition of American community choral singing.
