MASSENA -- Jennifer Austin has received a $500 grant from the St. Lawrence County Community Development Program and United Way to help her complete adult education courses and get a job.
Austin’s son Michael is in the home-based Head Start program in Massena. She is enrolled as an online student at Ashworth University from where in 2006 she received a certificate in medical transcription. She is now studying medical billing and coding.
“My goal is to become certified in 12 to 18 months,” she said. “After that, I am hoping to start work either in a doctor's office or hospital. I feel this is a wonderful way to help my family achieve personal and financial success.”
For the second year, the Wladis Law Firm and Strategic Development Specialists gave the United Way of NNY $1,500 to use for the scholarships.
