CANTON -- Improvement of outdoor recreation and trail amenities in Canton are the subject of a meeting and tours at United Helpers’ Maplewood Campus, 205 State Street Rd., Thursday, Oct. 20.

The Village of Canton, Friends of the Canton Trail, Canton Central School District, United Helpers, Town of Canton, Canton Bicycle Club, the Health Initiative and others are joining forces to work on a grant funding request to enhance existing trails on school and village property, including the Remington Recreation Trail around the Partridge Run Golf Course, and to connect them to a new smaller trail and outdoor amphitheater and pavilion on the United Helpers’ Maplewood campus.

The public is invited to learn more about the project, and tour the area where the new trail and amphitheater will be developed at the Thursday meeting.

Site tours will begin at 5 p.m. Look for the signs and guides on the grounds next to Maplewood, off Sullivan Drive. An information session will follow at Maplewood at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served. There will also be a drawing for a Canton Chamber gift certificate for those completing community surveys about the project.

“We are excited about the chance for a conversation with other members of the Canton community about the ideas proposed for the Maplewood site and the two trails in that vicinity,” said Baylor Johnson, representative for the Friends of the Canton Trail. “We encourage the public to attend.”
