Uniform of long-time volunteer firefighter donated to Potsdam Public Museum

 POTSDAM – Late Potsdam Fire Department Chief Louis White’s uniform has been donated to the Potsdam Public Museum.

Louis White (1923-2011) was a long time-resident of Potsdam who passed away in September of this year. He served in World War II in the 299th Army Engineering Battalion and was a survivor of the D-Day Normandy invasion.

He joined the Potsdam Fire Department in 1951 and served as Fire Chief from 1962 to 1965. He was an honor Roll Member of the department at the time of his death, having served the community for 60 years.

He was married to Catherine “Babe” Sullivan White for 67 Years. Babe passed away in August of this year.

Chief White’s uniform and helmet have a place of honor in the museum with the Fire Department Exhibit, now on view.
