CANTON -- Canton police on Friday at 3:15 p.m. received a report from a person at 67 Riverside Drive that he had found in the river a large shell or ordinance.
The male stated that while searching for river stones behind his residence, he pulled out the unexploded shell.
A Canton police officer responded and found the approximately 12-inch long ordnance on the lawn.
The New York State Police Bomb Unit safely removed what was assumed to be an artillery shell for proper disposal.
