Two to six inches of snow expected in St. Lawrence Valley by Wednesday morning

A winter weather advisory is in effect through Wednesday morning across the St. Lawrence Valley as snowfall later this afternoon and into tomorrow morning could make roads slippery, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Snow is expected to begin late this morning, likely after 10 a.m., across St. Lawrence County and progress east into the Adirondacks this afternoon, the service says.

Snowfall could be at a half inch per hour at times with the heaviest precipitation expected this afternoon and evening.

The snow is expected to continue overnight making roads snow covered and slippery and limiting visibility, NWS says. Visibility will be a mile or less in light to moderate snowfall.

Temps today will be in the high 20s with winds of 5 to 15 mph and gusts of 30 mph, the service says. Overnight lows will be around 14 with wind gust up to 25 mph.

Total snowfall through Wednesday morning is expected to be between two and six inches.

A winter weather advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause travel difficulties and for people to be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility while using caution while driving.

Wednesday will turn a bit colder as lower temps and winds could lead to wind chill values below zero, NWS says.

There is a 40 percent chance of snow showers Wednesday morning before mostly sunny skies take over. The high Wednesday is forecasted to be around 16 with wind chill values as low as -1. Winds will be around 11 to 15 mph with gusts near 30 mph the service says.
