POTSDAM – Two anonymous alumni of Potsdam schools are providing $100,000 to kick-start a new effort to enhance the education of Potsdam students and the efforts of their teachers.

The program will be celebrated Oct. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Potsdam High School library.

The Potsdam Educational Opportunities Fund will explain the program to parents and other supporters of public education in Potsdam.

Fundraising is being matched by an anonymous couple, both alumni of Potsdam schools, up to $100,000 at one-to-one for program support and two-to-one for contributions to an endowment for the fund’s operations.

The kickoff will celebrate the generous donor match in support of the creative and dedicated efforts of PCS teachers. The PEOF Advisory Committee, representing a broad cross-section of parents, community leaders, and citizens, is working with PCS teachers and administrators to develop a program of continuing support for the most creative and successful initiatives.

Tax-deductible contributions from the community are being encouraged, especially while the donor match challenge is in effect. More information about giving will be explained at the event.

The kickoff will include light refreshments and music by Potsdam Central School students. RSVP’s are requested by Oct. 8 to juliehelenbrook@yahoo.com.

The PEOF comprises concerned parents and others seeking to provide Potsdam Central School educators with resources to reach beyond the curriculum. The PEOF, through competitive proposals under the auspices of the Northern New York Community Foundation, is granting funds to PCS teachers to enhance their work with students.
