HEUVELTON — A couple is homeless following a fire at 293 State Route 184 Tuesday night, according to Heuvelton Fire Chief Travis Wood.
The blaze was reported around 6:15 p.m. by one of the tenants, he said.
The fire, which originated in the basement, had too much of a head start on firefighters who were unable to save the home.
The cause is under investigation.
Firefighters from Gouverneur, Morristown and Lisbon assisted on scene with Heuvelton fire. Firemen from Brier Hill and Rensselaer Falls were on standby for Heuvelton.
The home was not insured.
Red Cross was notified that a family was in need of help, Wood said.
