OGDENSBURG -- Two Ogdensburg residents were jailed Thursday on drug felonies, following indictments issued by St. Lawrence County Court.

Jessica E. Dodd, 35, of Ogdensburg, was indicted in St. Lawrence County Court on two counts each of of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

She is accused of selling the prescription drug Subutex.

Blane A. Fisher, 26, of 228 Denny St. is charged with three counts each of third-degree criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

He is accused of selling crack cocaine in Ogdensburg, police said.

Each was arraigned in St. Lawrence County Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility without bail, detectives said.

Subutex is prescribed to treat opiate addiction and is capable of being habit-forming itself, according to Ogdensburg City Police Detective Daniel Mousaw,

“In many instances, with regard to its illegal sales, Subutex or similarly, Suboxone, is sold by individuals, who are legally prescribed the drug, with the purpose of obtaining cash to purchase their drug of choice, for example, heroin or crack cocaine,” Mousaw said in a press release. “As with any prescription drug, its use, outside of its prescribed directives, such as using in higher doses, injecting the drug or crushing and snorting the drug, could have severe or even fatal consequences. Though in the minds of some, prescription drugs are legally prescribed, making them seem less dangerous, that is not the case.”

He says withdrawal symptoms from Suboxone or Subutex can be just as severe as other opiates.

An earlier version of this story contained a possibly erroneous address for Dodd.
