Master Jonathan French, left, and Master Matt Mooney

Matthew Mooney, head instructor at Mooney's Martial Arts in Ogdensburg, and Jonathan French, head instructor of Jeet Gi Taekwondo and Joshiki Self Defense in Massena, were both recently promoted to a master level in martial arts.

Master Mooney was promoted to sixth-degree master black belt in karate and Master French was promoted to fourth-degree master black belt in ITF Taekwondo.

The approval of the master ranks was given by Grand Master Greg Goepfert of IIMAA, and a board of international grand masters and masters.

French and Mooney, along with other well known martial artists and businesses, have started the Association of Martial Artists World Wide, www.amaww.com. The association will open before the end of 2013.
