MASSENA -- Massena Police Chief Adam Love on Tuesday recognized two village police officers for preventing an overdose death and a third as officer of the year.
Speaking at Tuesday’s village board meeting, he lauded patrolmen Cody Wilson and Brandon Huckle for the lifesaving incident and Ptl. Cody Clary as Officer of the Year.
Love told the board that Wilson and Huckle prevented an overdose death while responding to a recent 911 call by administering naloxone, a nasal spray that can reverse the effect of a heroin or opioid overdose. It is sometimes marketed under the name brand Narcan.
Love said the person had a weak pulse and was barely breathing due to a heroin overdose.
“Their quick response to the scene and efficient administration of Narcan saved this subject’s life,” Love said.
Clary was nominated by his fellow policemen as officer of the year, Love said.
“This award is given every year to a police department employee who brings credit to the department [whose] performance is well above and beyond that which is required by their basic assignment,” Love told the board. “Ptl. Clary’s outstanding excellence, performance, productivity, commitment and integrity went well above his duties as a patrol officer.”
