MASSENA -- Two Massena residents are facing firearms charges, one for having a stolen gun and the other for having a pistol without a license, according to village police.
Darrell M. Trammel, 27, of 2 Willow St. Apt. 102 is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies.
Christopher P. Hotte, 25, of 187 Center St. Apt. 2 is charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.
They were each arrested and charged on Aug. 27.
According to court documents, Hotte was charged after being found in possession of a backpack with a Mauser 7.65mm pistol without a permit. It also contained digital scales police allege were used to weigh controlled substances, along with smoking pipes, aluminum foil and spoons, court documents state.
Sgt. Andy Richards made a statement saying he caught Hotte after watching his apartment building after receiving a tip there were illegal weapons there. He said he saw Hotte leave the building acting suspiciously and found the contraband after stopping him and getting consent to look in the bag, court documents state.
Trammel allegedly possessed two stolen firearms. One was a defaced Taurus .38 special reported stolen from Virginia. He also allegedly had a Ruger Blackhawk .357 reported stolen from Massena, court documents state.
Both defendants were arraigned in Norfolk Town Court by Justice George Grubee and released on their own recognizance to re-appear on a later date.
