MASSENA -- Two students in the music program at Massena Central High School were recognized at Thursday’s Board of Education meeting for their recent naming to an all-state performance symposium.
Oboe player Daniel Elman and tuba player Drake Tubbs were named to the New York State Band Directors’ Association Honors Band.
Prinicpal Patrick Farrand said they were chosen by a committee based on their annual New York State School Music Association solo competition scores, along with director recommendations. Tubbs and Elman are under direction of music teacher Jonathan Hunkins.
Those chosen from throughout the state travel to Liverpool in March for three days of practice followed a concert, all under the direction of a highly recognized director.
Farrand called the symposium an “opportunity for exceptional students in instrumental music performance.”
