GOUVERNEUR -- Two Gouverneur men have been charged with burglary for allegedly stealing pills from a Scotch Settlement Road house.
Adam R. Matott, 32, and Paul J. Smith, 39, were arrested by state police Oct. 12 and charged second-degree burglary, a class C felony.
Troopers said Matott broke into the Town of Gouverneur residence and was caught by the homeowner. Matott had pried open a rear door to gain entry, and then stole a bottle of hydrocodone pills, while Smith waited in a vehicle parked in the driveway, according to a state police report.
The two men were arraigned in the Town of Fowler Court. Matott was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton with no bail. He is on parole, troopers said.
He is to reappear in Town of Fowler Court on Oct. 17.
Smith was released under the supervision of the Probation Department and is to reappear on Nov. 5.
