MASSENA -- A traffic stop early on Tuesday morning led to drug charges against two people after police allegedly discovered controlled substances and paraphernalia.
The driver, Steven E. Searles, 32, of McCamidge Drive, Cicero is charged with a felony count of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
A passenger, Amber R. Sanderson, 29, of U.S. Highway 11, North Lawrence is charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Massena police Chief Adam Love said Searles was pulled over for swerving over the center line on state Route 37 just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.
During the traffic stop, police allegedly discovered Searles with six glassine baggies of heroin, which resulted in the felony, a small amount of crack and a scale.
Sanderson was allegedly found with a small quantity of crack and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Searles was arraigned in Massena court by Justice Joseph Brown and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility, Canton, in lieu of $750 bail, police said.
Sanderson was arraigned in front of Brown and released under probationary supervision, according to police.
