CANTON -- Village police arrested two men for possession of narcotics Tuesday and one was jailed without bail following an ongoing investigation into the sale of heroin, cocaine and suboxone in the village.
Daniel J. Roe, 25, of 42 Miner St., Apartment 3, was arrested at 11:20 a.m. and charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony, fourth-degree conspiracy, felony, fourth-degree criminal solicitation, misdemeanor and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.
Roe was stopped during a routine traffic stop and found to be in possession of 3.5 grams of cocaine and 1 gram of heroin, police said. Roe was arraigned before town Justice Christopher J. Curley and remanded to St Lawrence County Correctional Facility without bail, police said.
Wallace F. McLaughlin, 22, of 11 Pine St. , Apt. B, was also arrested at 11:20 a.m. and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony, and eight counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substnace, misdemeanor.
McLaughlin was found to be in possession of eight strips of Suboxone which was packaged for sale, police said. McLaughlin was arraigned before Justice Curley and released under the supervision of the st. Lawrence County Probation Department, police said.
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, police said.
Assisting with the investigation were the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force, county Sheriff's office, SUNY Potsdam Police and state troopers.
