Paige Merz takes the plunge in Ogdensburg.
OGDENSBURG – Twenty brave men and women braved the icy St. Lawrence River to raise more than $3,000 for the Ogdensburg Rescue Squad and the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce.
The ice was 23 inches thick and temperatures were around 19 degrees during Saturday's "Polar Bear Plunge.'
The top money raiser was Paige Merz, who brought in $1,639. Merz was awarded $500 for her efforts.
Several plungers also won for the costume prizes and received $25 each. Those plungers were as follows:
Best Female – Paige Merz – “Jacqueline Frost”
Best Male – Jason Thomas – “DJ Lance from Yo GabaGaba
Creative – Blayne Finley – “Have a Heart” costume
Funniest – Andrew Conlan & Andrew Baker – “Mario Brothers”
