CANTON -- A turtle fence is being constructed on State Highway 68 at the Upper and Lower Lakes Wildlife Management Area.

The wildlife barrier is being completed by the St. Lawrence Youth Conservation Corps, under the direction of Clarkson University Biology Prof. Tom A. Langen and his students. The YCC workers are building the fence July 19-21 and July 26-28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

An educational kiosk has also been built at the site. It was designed by Clarkson Prof. Steve Farina's capstone communication course using research on turtle road mortality done by Langen and his students.

The project is a Clarkson-led collaboration with the Department of Environmental Conservation, state Department of Transportation, St. Lawrence County BOCES and St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau.
