Troopers received a report of the abandoned dog from witnesses who had located the animal on Jan. 6.
Police said a crate from which the dog escaped was covered in feces.
When interviewed about the incident, Mandigo initially lied about abandoning the dog, leading to the false statement charge, officers said.
Mandido was released on appearance tickets for Tupper Lake court Feb. 1.
