Troopers seek stolen SUV believed involved in fatal Morristown hit-and-run

MORRISTOWN – A 19-year-old from Lancaster was struck and killed Sunday evening in a hit-and-run accident on County Rt. 6.

Benjamin M. Schick was hit by an eastbound dark-colored SUV as he walked eastbound on the shoulder with a friend, John A. Robinson, 19, also of Lancaster, shortly before 9 p.m.

Schick was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg and pronounced dead by Dr. Florentino Nilooban. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

Robinson was not struck or injured, and was able to provide a description of the vehicle. The SUV fled the scene continuing eastbound on County Route 6.

State police and Ogdensburg police believe they have identified the vehicle involved in the accident, stolen not far from where it occurred.

Just before 10 p.m., Ogdensburg Police Department received a report of a stolen 2001 Honda CRV, color blue, New York registration GDT5129, which was alleged to have been stolen from the parking lot of Echos on the Lake convenience store, near the accident scene.

State police believe the vehicle may have been involved in the accident.

The Troop B Collision Reconstruction Unit and Troop B Violent Crimes Investigation Team responded to assist. and St. Lawrence County District Attorney Nicole Duve advised.
