OGDENSBURG -- State police have identified the inmate who was murdered at Riverview Correctional Facility on Tuesday as 25-year-old Trevor Roberts.
Investigators said another inmate stabbed him to death.
Dr. Michael Sikirica performed an autopsy on Roberts at Albany Medical Center and determined the cause of death to be hemopericardium and hemothorax resulting from perforation of the heart caused by a stab wound to the lower chest, troopers said.
Sikirica ruled the death a homicide, according to police.
Hemothorax is a collection of blood between the chest wall and the lung. Hemopericardium is accumulation of blood in the pericardial sac in the heart.
State police Troop B spokesman Tpr. Kyle Otis said there are suspects, but no arrests have been made.
Roberts was serving a six-year sentence for attempted second-degree burgalry for a conviction in Queens County, according to state Department of Corrections records. He entered Riverview on May 7, 2012, the NYSDOCCS website says.
