State police issued a total of 822 tickets in the North Country’s Troop “B” over the Memorial Day Weekend, from Friday, May 27 through Monday, May 30.
Among the hundreds of tickets given, troopers issued 11 tickets to drivers alleging driving while intoxicated, 246 speeding tickets, tickets for 94 alleged seatbelt violations, nine “move-over” tickets, and tickets to distracted drivers including those using electronic devices while driving.
Troop B includes St. Lawrence, Franklin, Essex, Clinton and Hamilton counties.
During the 96-hour campaign, which was funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the New York State Police increased patrols and conducted sobriety checkpoints to deter, identify and arrest impaired drivers. As part of the enforcement, troopers also targeted speeding and aggressive drivers across the state.
