LAWRENCE -- State police said that an ATV operator from Brasher was killed when he slammed into a truck and was run over by another vehicle.
At about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 14, troopers responded to a crash involving a commercial truck and an ATV the intersection of U.S. Route 11 and Hallahan Road in the town of Lawrence.
They said that a 1997 Yamaha Wolverine ATV operated by Roger J. Deshane, 46, of Brasher Falls was traveling south on Hallahan Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.
A 2013 International Harvester tractor attached to a loaded 53-foot trailer, operated by Henry J. Hart Jr., 61, of Plattsburgh, was traveling east on State Route 11.
Deshane’s ATV struck the side of Hart’s trailer, and Deshane was ejected from his ATV. A third vehicle, a 2009 Honda Accord, operated by Nathan H. Magne, 25, of Montpelier, Vermont, was westbound on State Route 11 and inadvertently struck Deshane, who was laying in the roadway, troopers said.
St. Lawrence County Coroner June Wood responded to the scene and pronounced Deshane deceased. Deshane’s body was removed to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy was performed on Sept. 16 by Dr. Jeremy Stuelpnagel, who determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt force injuries due to the accident. The manner of death was ruled accidental.
