BRUSHTON -- The man who died when his pickup truck jumped a guide rail and dove across the Little Salmon River early Friday is from New Hampshire, according to state police.
John P. Cournoyer, 56, of Manchester has been identified as the man who died after his 2013 Chevrolet Silverado smashed into rocks on the other side of the river, off of U.S. Rt. 11 about five miles east of the St. Lawrence County line.
The accident occurred at about 2:40 a.m. Franklin County Coroner Brian Langdon pronounced Cournoyer dead at about 6:20 a.m. and authorized the removal of the body to Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone.
An autopsy is being performed this afternoon at Alice Hyde, according to state police.
Troopers say they hope to speak the operator of a small white SUV believed to have been in the area at the time of the crash and who might have witnessed something that would add to the understanding of what happened.
If anyone has information about this investigation they are asked to call SP Malone at (518) 563-3761.
