POTSDAM – Three experienced and certified Yoga instructors are opening a new yoga studio, Trillium Center for Yoga and Health at 25 Market Street, part of the space previously occupied by Northern Music and Video.

Owners Terry de la Vega, Shannon Miller and Jean Benvenuto plan a two-week “soft” opening from Monday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 30 with a sampling of classes, one a day, through the period. They include a beginners’ class Aug. 19, morning yoga Aug. 25, and yoga dance Aug. 28. The partners and a number of other instructors have been lined up to lead the classes.

The space has been divided into one big room, where the classes will take place, and a smaller room for healing arts and massage therapy. Debra Mitchel and Theresa Samways, certified therapists, will counsel individuals.

There will be a flat rate of $10 per class for the initial period, for between an hour and an hour and a half. During August, participants may buy an unlimited class pass for $75 for any and all classes in September only, as a special offer for the opening. Beginning Sept. 1, a drop-in rate of $15 per class goes into effect, and a 10-class card can be purchased for $120, which can be used for any ongoing class, anytime.

There will also be some classes that will meet for a specific period over five, six or eight weeks, with the fee set by the instructor.

The initial two-week period this month is to offer potential students a chance to sample some of the classes and to “get the kinks out and see what works,” De la Vega said.
