Town of Madrid receives $1,000 donation toward purchase of new electric town sign

MADRID -- The Town of Madrid recently received a $1,000 donation toward the purchase of an updated town sign.

The new town sign will be electric and will show all school and public events to keep community members up to date on town happenings.

In addition, the fire department will have the ability to change the sign electronically if an urgent message needs to be displayed.

“An updated town sign will be a huge asset to our community,” Community Bank N.A. Madrid branch manager Michelle Hollister said in a prepared statement. Her employer gave the cash. “The current town sign has plastic letters that break frequently and don’t leave enough room to share all the amazing events happening in Madrid. We encourage all community members who are able to donate to the cause and help the town reach its goal.”

In total, the town needs to fundraise $8,200 for the updated sign. The campaign is running through June 1 with the goal of the new sign being completed by the end of the year.

To make a donation, checks can be made payable to Town of Madrid with “Town sign” noted in the memo and mailed to 3529 County Route 14, Madrid, NY 13660.
