EDWARDS -- The Town of Edwards is to receive a $45,000 reimbursement for expenses relating to the dissolution of the Village of Edwards government last year.
The New York Department of State Citizen’s Re-Organization and Empowerment Grant, designed to aid municipalities in restructuring, is to help pay for property transfers, equipment transfer and the forming of water, sewer and lighting districts resulting from the dissolution of the village.
In March 2011, the Village of Edwards electorate voted to dissolve the village 55-9. The Village of Edwards officially dissolved effective December 31, 2012.
The grants are among the incentives provided by state government to municipalities who endeavor to cut taxpayer costs through measures such as dissolution of one layer of government.
“The Citizen Reorganization Empowerment Grants facilitate local governments with an opportunity to offer property tax relief to its residents by exploring and adopting consolidation methods” said Secretary of State Cesar A. Perales.
