EDWARDS -- The Town of Edwards will receive $50,000 from Albany to repair the Spruce Road Bridge, pending state approval, according to Sen. Patty Ritchie, R-Heuvelton.
“For years, the Spruce Road Bridge has been in need of major repairs,” said Edwards Highway Superintendent Duane Sykes.
“In recent years, deterioration of the bridge has caused safety concerns for motorists and school bus drivers, as the bridge is the only available route for Edwards-Knox Central School District buses to pick up children who live in its vicinity,” Ritchie said.
Construction of the new bridge is expected to begin in the spring.
Ritchie’s 48th Senate District includes northern and western St. Lawrence County, including Ogdensburg, Gouverneur and Canton.
