MASSENA -- The Town Council and supervisor filled most of the vacancies on the boards of 10 town entities Thursday night.

The board appointed Phil Trears to finish three years of an unexpired term on the planning board. The seat was vacated by Samual Carbone Jr., who was sworn in as a councilman earlier in the evening. Bob Elsner was named to a five-year term on the planning board.

Lynn Smith was picked for a fresh five-year term on the zoning board, the board expects to fill an empty five-year seat at their January 15 meeting.

Sally Yeddo was given the nod to sit on the Massena Museum board for five years. David Zappia resigned a year ahead of his term’s expiration date, but Town Supervisor Joseph Gray said the spot will remain empty. He said the seat would bring the board to six members.

“They don’t need the extra body,” he said.

Mark Englert was re-appointed to a five-year term on the Massena Public Library board.

Ralph Bathelt will spend another five years on the Massena Rescue Squad board.

Rene Hart got the go-ahead for five more years with the Massena Electric Department board.

Ron Bacon was granted a new three-year term on the Business Development Corporation board.

George Trippany was re-appointed to the Joint Recreation Commission.

Gray named Loretta Perez and Scott Wilson to five-year spots on the Massena Memorial Hospital board. A third seat is expected to be filled on January 15.

Gray also appointed Jim Shaw as chairman of the MED board.
