Tornado watch posted for St. Lawrence County and North Country

Posted

Most of the North Country is under a tornado watch in effect through 9 p.m. tonight, posted by the National Weather Service.

A flash flood watch is also in effect through midnight tonight, as strong thunderstorms are expected to roll through the St. Lawrence Valley this afternoon and tonight.

With heavy rainfall already in some areas last night, flash floods are more likely with heavy downpours in any thunderstorms that might develop today and tonight.

The weather service says one to three inches of rainfall are possible, with strong winds and the possibility of one to two-inch hail.

Any tornadoes, if they do develop, are expected to be short-lived.

A long line of storms extends from Kentucky through eastern Ohio, western Pennsylvania and western New York, racing into Lewis and Jefferson counties now, and moving northeast.

For current location of the storm, view radar map from Intellicast.com.

The storms can be expected to continue into the early morning hours of tomorrow, before skies clear for a nice day tomorrow with highs in the mid-70s.

You can keep track of storms by the radar and satellite images offered by the weather services on our weather page.
