NORFOLK -- A tobacco and gift shop has opened at 65 West Main St.

Roomies, which opened in August, is owned by 42-year-old Norfolk resident Jim Pircsuk.

This is his first business venture. He says the spot was previously a rental location, and after the tenant passed away, plans were made to create the business.

“I rented this house to a very nice old man the last eight years and he passed away in January. I did not want to rent again as it costs too much for repairs after tenants leave,” he said. “I then got a variance through the town to zone it commercial for a retail store.”

Roomies sells glass pipes, water pipes, incense, candles, scented soaps, tapestries, sarongs, carry bags, book bags, purses, e-juice, vaporizers, best value vacs, butane, little wooden storage boxes and more.

“The name came about years ago when a relative was in a little argument with his wife and stayed here for a couple weeks. My relative liked the two weeks he spent here, so all my other relatives then would joke and say they want to be my roomie, and it stuck,” he said. “I am happy to say my relative and his wife are still together, never been apart again and that was the only time they were apart in over 20 years of marriage.”

Pircsuk says, “things have been great, there have been no issue or problems and every one that has came loves the store.”

“I think the store will grow as word of mouth spreads about it.”

Roomies is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
