Thunderstorms, warming this week in St. Lawrence Valley

Warmer temperatures will be accompanied by thunderstorms as high-pressure centers over the North Country this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures today are expected to reach the low 70s and rise into the 80s by Wednesday. Thunderstorms will threaten most of St. Lawrence County throughout the workweek.

A seven-day forecast follows:

• Today: Sunny, with a high near 71. Southwest wind 8 to 13 mph.

• Tonight: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 58. South wind around 7 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly between 8am and noon. Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Southwest wind 7 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

• Tuesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Increasing clouds, with a low around 64. Southwest wind 6 to 11 mph becoming light west after midnight. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

• Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
