Three students at Canton's SLU charged with felonies for allegedly selling, possessing concentrated marijuana wax

CANTON -- Three St. Lawrence University students have been charged with selling or possessing concentrated marijuana wax.

On April 20, at approximately 10:50 a.m., the Canton Police Department assisted St. Lawrence University Security officials with some suspicious packages, which were located in the student mailroom in the Student Center on St. Lawrence University campus.

One of the packages was damaged and had coffee grounds spilling out of it. Upon further inspection, the packages were found to contain a tar like substance, which was revealed to be concentrated cannibas or more commonly referred to on the street as “wax,” according to investigators.

Liam R. Ward, 22, of 189 Oseetah Woods Road, Saranac Lake, was charged with two felony counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance

John T. Lesofsky, 23, of 55 Emerald St., Tyngsborough, Mass. was charged with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree conspiracy, misdemeanor.

Carl J. Stewart, 21, of 282 County Route 47, Saranac Lake, was charged with fifth-degree attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony.

Ward and Lesofsky were arraigned before Pierrepont Town Justice Robert Camp and released under supervision of the county Probation Department. They are to return to court on May 6. Stewart was released with an appearance ticket returnable in Canton Town Court on April 22.

Assisting with the investigation were members from the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force and the St. Lawrence University Security and Safety Department.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
