Three of St. Lawrence County’s elected officials say they were not among the six female state lawmakers who recently received death threats, while a fourth is not commenting.
News outlets around the state have reported that six female representatives who serve on the education committee, none of whom represent St. Lawrence County, were threatened sometime in May.
Spokespeople for Senators Betty Little and Patty Ritchie and Assemblywoman Addie Russell said the lawmakers had not been threatened.
Assemblywoman Janet Duprey’s office refused to comment.
New York State Police Troop B Spokesperson Jennifer Fleishmann said her agency is not investigating any threats against lawmakers. She said she reached out to other troops around the state and they also have no open cases.
On June 1, the Buffalo News reported there was an extra state police presence in the Assembly chamber in the wake of the threats.
Malcontented constituents have targeted Duprey in the past. In September 2012, someone took several of her campaign signs on U.S. Route 11 in Franklin County and spraypainted “babby killer” on them, a presumed misspelling for “baby killer.”
State police investigated but no one was ever charged.
