Two people were sent to the hospital after collisions in Madrid and Norfolk.

A Tuesday crash in Norfolk sent a Hermon man to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, according to State Police.

Troopers say Rita Blevins, 88, of Missouri Avenue, Potsdam was traveling northbound on state Route 56 near the Massena-Norfolk town line and failed to see a northbound vehicle driven by Peggy A. Carr, 64, of Hermon.

Carr’s vehicle was stopped in anticipation of making a left turn. Blevins rear-ended the vehicle.

Carr’s passenger Paul Noftsier, 55, of Hermon was taken to CPH with complaints of side and back pain, troopers said.

Blevins was ticketed for following too close. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene, troopers said.

The following day, an Ottawa, Ontario man was cited following a collision in Madrid that sent his passenger to CPH, police said.

Yuri Unesikhin, 23, Ottawa was driving a 2015 Kia and stopped at a stop sign on county Route 31 and didn’t see oncoming traffic. He entered county Route 14, striking a 2011 Chevrolet driven by Tammy Lou Hawkins, 51, of Madrid.

Unesikhin was ticketed for failure to yield, police said.

Madrid rescue took his passenger, 20-year-old Mariia Salnikova of Ottawa, to CPH with complaints of abdominal pain, troopers said.
