OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg police have charged three men with robbery and burglary in an alleged home invasion by men wearing ski masks.
One of the men was also charged with welfare fraud.
At about 4:45 Monday afternoon, the Ogdensburg Police Department received a report that three men, wearing ski masks and dark clothing, had illegally entered a residence at 822 New York Ave. in a robbery attempt.
There was a brief struggle between one of the suspects and the home owners, police said. Three young children were in the residence, and one of the children was shoved to the floor.
Arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree burglary, fourth-degree conspiracy, and three counts each of endangering the welfare of a child, were Cody L.G. Garcia, 22, of 356 Belmont Courts, Dustin S. Bennett, 27, of 455 Belmont Courts, and Joseph F. Law, 26, of 706 Mansion Avenue.
Garcia and Bennett were arraigned before Ogdensburg City Court Judge William Small and held on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond each.
Law was in the Ogdensburg lockup awaiting arraignment Tuesday night.
Bennett was subsequently arrested by the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Department on charges from the county Department of Social Services of fifth-degree welfare fraud and second-degree offering a falsifying an official filing with DSS for allegedy receiving $947.10 in temporary assistance to which he was not entitled. He was issued appearance tickets for Canton Town Court.
The Ogdensburg Police Department investigation continues and further more arrests are pending, police said.
