MACOMB – Three people are homeless following a fire that destroyed a home at 1755 Lead Mine Rd. on Saturday, according to St. Lawrence County fire investigators.
The Gouverneur Fire Department responded at 11:21 a.m. to the property owned by Charles and Donna Washburn.
The Richville, Morristown and Oxbow fire departments provided mutual aid and the Gouvenreur Rescue Squad also responded. The DeKalb and Antwerp fire departments were on standby during the blaze.
Investigators said the fire was first discovered by Emily Washburn who woke to discover flames entering her downstairs bedroom of the family home. She left the bedroom through a window and went next door to report the fire, investigators said.
She was treated by the Gouverneur Rescue Squad for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters discovered the front of the house fully engulfed in flames when they arrived and performed an exterior attack.
No injuries were reported on the scene. The home has been declared a total loss.
Gouverneur firefighters returned to the station at 2:31 p.m.
Cause of the blaze in under investigation by the St. Lawrence County Bureau of Fire.
