STOCKHOLM -- Three people were charged with possession of various narcotics following a bust on Wednesday evening.

Around 5:45 p.m. St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives say using a search warrant, they found cocaine and marijuana in a residence where a child under age 17 lived.

The suspects include:

Gerald D. Benway III, 37, of Stockholm, was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal possession of marijuana, both felonies, and child endangerment, misdemeanor.

Samantha M. Michael, 39, of Norwood and Justin P. Woodward, 28, of Potsdam were each charged with a misdemeanor count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The arrests arise from a search warrant, signed by Town of Potsdam Judge Sam Charleson, and carried out at Benway’s residence in the Town of Stockholm.

He allegedly possessed approximately 18 grams of cocaine and about 21 ounces of pot. Woodward allegedly possessed a small amount of cocaine. Michael allegedly possessed a small amount of cocaine as well as oxycodone pills, deputies said.

Woodward and Michael were each issued appearance tickets and are due to answer the charges in the Town of Stockholm court on Dec. 5, the sheriff’s office said.

Benway was arraigned in Stockholm Town Court and released under probationary supervision, police said.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office say they were assisted by members of the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force, Norfolk Police Department, Ogdensburg City Police Department, New York State Police and Border Patrol.

They say there is an ongoing investigation with further charges pending.
