A traffic stop on a vehicle on County Rt. 25 in Canton has resulted in the arrest of four men for possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms and pot, according to St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Deputies.
William P. Sapoff, 20, and Aaron P. Raymo, 21, of Gouverneur and Theodore Travis III, 21, of Richville were all arrested when deputies pulled over their vehicle Monday and a K9 detected drugs.
County drug task force members located approximately one pound of hallucinogenic mushrooms in the trunk of the vehicle, along with a small amount of marijuana. All three were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A-11 felony.
They were arraigned in Canton Town Court and held in county jail pending a preliminary hearing March 15.
As a result of these arrests, the drug task force executed a search warrant at a Gouverneur residence and arrested a fourth person, Charles Insalaco, 35. Deputies report the residence contained 18 ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms and drug paraphernalia.
Insalaco's arrest was handled by Gouverneur police.
Assisting in the investigation were Gouverneur Police, Canton Police, SUNY Potsdam Police, state police, the sheriff's department and Ogdensburg Police.
