POTSDAM -- The largest vendor show in the North Country is expected to draw between 4,000 and 5,000 shoppers to Clarkson’s Cheel Arena Oct. 21 and 22 featuring over 120 vendors of all kinds.

The St. Lawrence Chamber of Commerce’s Craft, Food and Wine Show opens Friday, Oct. 21, at noon and runs through 8 p.m. The show continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.

“Our show is praised for the unique and quality products we offer,” said Jo Ann Roberts, events and promotions manager at the chamber.

New vendors include Gregory Utter Woodworks of Canton offering wood boxes and clocks; Cranberry Lake Pottery offering hand-thrown pottery; Wooden Lace Craft and Designs from Fort Edward selling scroll saw wooden art; and Bridgett’s County Creations of Madrid offering soy candles. Other new vendors include Krebby’z Kyd’s from Burke who will sell fantasy collectibles and Stone Valley Gift Shop of Potsdam who will sell handmade signs.

Other vendors will offer their wares of handmade everyday and holiday gifts, including jewelry, furniture and art of all kinds. Vendors will be in the lobby and on the arena floor.

This year’s show includes nine wineries and 24 food vendors.

Roberts said that last year they offered free shuttle service from Pine Street Arena to Cheel Arena because of parking issues at Cheel. The service will be offered again.

The shuttle will run from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Roberts said the date of the event varies each year depending on the limited availability of Cheel Arena due to hockey games.

“We usually get one or two weekends to look at and by doing our show earlier than in past years it gave us a chance for a second show,” Roberts said.

The chamber hosted a second show, the “Tastes & Talents of the North Country Holiday Show,” last December at the arena in the St. Lawrence Centre mall. This year’s event moves to SUNY Potsdam’s Maxcy Hall Field House and is slated for Dec. 9 and 10.

Vendor spots for the winter show are still open but are limited to legitimate businesses who offer homemade and hand-crafted items, Roberts said.

County chamber businesses are given first dibs on showing at the event, then vendors from last year are contacted and finally a list of new vendors are given the chance to reserve a booth.

“We try to find vendors that are not already represented,” she said.

The wineries will have samples and be selling wine by the bottle.

More food vendors have signed up this year including businesses that will sell fudge, sauces, pickles, mustards and more. Representatives from the Maple Producers Association will also be in attendance.

Admission is $ 3 each day.

Cheel Arena is handicap accessible.
