CANTON – A third person arrested in the theft and wreck of a van in Canton last month is being held in lieu of $10.000 cash bail.
James Papineau, Jr., 26, 183 Raquette Point Rd., Hogansburg, has been charged by St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies with third-degree grand larceny.
He and two others, previously charged, stole a Service Master van from West Street in the village early on the morning of April 5, and took it for a drive before it crashed on the Irish Settlement Road and the three fled, according to deputies.
Papineau was arraigned before Town of Pierrepont Justice Camp and, after consultation with the district attorney’s office, was ordered held on $10,000 bail.
