It feels more like August than June, and the temperature at Massena has at least tied the record of 90 degrees for this date.
The Weather Channel (www.weather.com) reports the temperature at Richards Field in Massena hit 90 degrees at 2:25 p.m. today. That equals a record set in 2005, according to the National Weather Service.
In other parts of the county, thermometers recorded even higher temperatures – including the temperature posted on NorthCountryNow.com based on Potsdam conditions.
But for St. Lawrence County, the official National Weather Service records are based at the Massena airport.
With the relative humidity at 50 percent, the heat index reached 92 degrees.
The normal high for June 11 is 75, and the normal overnight low is 53. Those figures are based on averages over the previous 30 years.
The record low, set in 1971, was 38.
Tonight, the temperature is not expected to get below the mid-60s. But tomorrow, with rain in the forecast, the expected highs are in the 70s.
