Temperatures to rise and skies to clear throughout St. Lawrence County as the week progresses; wintry mix could return Thursday

Most of St. Lawrence County could get more wintry mix on Tuesday, but with warmer temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters are calling for a 50 percent chance on continued precipitation tonight, with temperatures getting to about 29 degrees in most communities and a few degrees cooler in higher elevations.

Tuesday is forecast to bring a 20 percent chance of snow or rain to Canton, Gouverneur, Potsdam and Star Lake. Massena and Ogdensburg are predicted to have mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures could get as high as in Ogdensburg and Gouverneur and a couple of degrees cooler in all other areas, meteorologists say.

Wintry mix should cease by Tuesday night with temperatures falling back into the high 20s, the NWS says.

Wednesday is forecast to be cloudy in all areas of St. Lawrence County with temperatures similar to Tuesday.

Temperatures are forecast to stay just above freezing Wednesday night and as high as 50 degrees in Thursday. Meteorologists say there is a 60 percent chance of wintry mix during those hours.

The detailed forecast for Potsdam:

Tonight - A chance of rain and snow showers before 3am, then a slight chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday - A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Light northeast wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Tuesday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. Northeast wind 5 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday - Cloudy, with a high near 43. Northeast wind 8 to 11 mph.

Wednesday night - Rain and snow showers likely before 1am, then rain showers likely between 1am and 4am, then a chance of rain and snow showers after 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 35. East wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday - A chance of rain and snow showers before 7am, then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 50. Southeast wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday night - Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 45. South wind 10 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Friday - Showers. High near 57. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday night - Showers. Low around 43. Southwest wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday - A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 51. West wind around 8 mph.

Saturday night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. West wind around 7 mph.

Sunday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. West wind around 7 mph.

Sunday night - Mostly clear, with a low around 33. West wind around 6 mph becoming south after midnight.

Monday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. South wind around 7 mph.
