OGDENSBURG – Ogdensburg police are warning residents of a new scam in which the scammer claims to be an officer.
Police received reports of a male with a southern accent calling residents and claiming to be from the Ogdensburg Police Department.
The resident's are told they have summons they need to pay. The scammers request payment be made immediately.
The number appearing is 557-0757 and the man identifies himself as Sgt. Brown.
Police say suspicious activity via telephone, email, or delivered mail should be verified through their local police department also.
They are also reminding residents to never give out any personal information such as date of birth, social security numbers, banking account information or credit card information.
