Free tax preparation will be available throughout St. Lawrence County again from Feb. 1 to Apr. 15.
The AARP tax aide program is seeking volunteers to work a minimum of one four-hour shift per week between those dates.
They will help low- and middle-income people, with an emphasis on those age 60 and older, prepare federal and state tax returns.
AARP tax counselors receive free training and become IRS-certified after taking an exam.
No experience is necessary. Volunteers do not need to be retired or AARP members.
Once approved, tax preparers will be assigned to a site in their communities.
Training sessions are slated from Dec. 8 to 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Canton Knights of Columbus, Miner Street.
