CANTON – TAUNY’s Sugar and Spice gingerbread competition deadline for entry is Tuesday, Nov. 29.

For the 2016 Sugar & Spice competition, community members are invited to get creative and imagine the camp or cottage of their dreams, build a model of their own camp or cottage, recreate a landmark, or find their own way to interpret this year’s theme to craft their own gingerbread house.

The display will open at The TAUNY Center, 53 Main St., at the annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Since 2002, contestants from throughout the region have competed annually in various age categories as well as for the People's Choice award, which is announced at the end of December. Past themes have included local landmarks, fairy tales, children’s literature, and gingerbread around the world.

Entries must be made of gingerbread baked from scratch and be entirely edible. All entries must be dropped off at TAUNY between Tuesday, Nov. 22 and 29.

A registration form will include space for a brief description of the gingerbread house and/or a statement from the artist. Entries will be accepted and prizes awarded in four categories: adult (ages 18+), youth (12-17 with no adult help), children (under 12 with minimal adult help), and family/youth/community group. Entries created by groups are encouraged.

Exhibition pieces, which will not enter the competition but will be on display, are also welcome. More information is available at tauny.org.

To prepare for the contest, TAUNY offers a gingerbread workshop with gingerbread builder Sue Wilder on Saturday, Nov. 12.
