TAUNY gingerbread contest in Canton hard to judge with so many good entries

CANTON -- Rebecca Weld (left) and Felicity Palmer judge entries in TAUNY’s “Gingerbread Around the World” contest.

Working with Caroline Downing, the judges found their assignment challenging because of the quality and creativity of the entries. Following are the award winners:

Adult category: first place - “Market Place in Mumbai” by Amy Feiereisel, Flip Filippi, and Ally Talbot; second place (tie) - “Mexican Retabla” by Michael Greer and “Polish Market Square” by Kathy Dupray, Patty Van Patten, and Margaret Beldock; third place – “Scandinavian Fishing Village” by Barb Heller and Ron Rogers, Todd Moe and Paul Siskind, and Erika Barthelmess.

Family category: first place – “Japanese Gingerbread House” by the Crabtree family; second place – “The Hanging Gardens of Babylon” by the Fullerton family; third place – “Celtic Castle” by Heather and Clare Sullivan-Catlin.

Honorable mentions in the category were awarded to “The Taj Mahal of Gingerbread” by the Pierce family and “Train Station” by the Sibley-Jenkins family.

Children’s category: first place – “The Great Wall of China” by Daniel, Christopher, and Gabriella Schuckers and Caroline Silver; second place – “Big Ben and the London Eye” by Kelsea Whittier and Sophia Silver; third place – “The Eiffel Tower” by Laurel Whittier.

Honorable mention was awarded to “El Mitad del Mundo” by Kate and Clare Brownell.

All entries will be on display at The TAUNY Center (53 Main Street, Canton) through Saturday, Dec. 22. Come in and vote for your favorite. The People’s Choice Award will be announced Friday, Dec.21. More information and photos at www.TAUNY.org
